The Caucus Race: Making the Best of things, Win-Win, Fun for the Sake of Fun, Reward

1/30/2023

The Caucus Race is the creative invention of the Dodo, who has taken it upon himself to help everyone get dry after Alice’s flow of tears has flooded Wonderland. The race makes little sense and is recounted so: “. . . all the party were placed along the course here and there. There was no ‘One, two, three, and away,’ but they began running when they liked, and left off when they liked, so that it was not easy to know when the race was over.” Once everyone has tired of running and is quite dry again, they are all pronounced winners. At first glance it may be hard to see the point to the whole adventure.
Picture
You have drawn The Caucus Race with the challenge to look more closely at your circumstances. Regardless of the rules or lack thereof, and whatever game you are participating in, the process is leading you to the desirable outcome. Whether you are declared a winner has nothing to do with the value to be gained. Once you have completed this task, you will have accomplished all that is necessary to be successful and quite satisfactorily satiated. Don’t lose the real prize you have gained from your experience by looking to be rewarded externally (though there may be some frivolous benefits to be gained). Don’t let the chaos and madness distract you either. There is great wisdom to be gained by what you are partaking in, and the results, though possibly unclear, are just what’s needed at this time.

This is just a juicy taste of this card reading. There is much more, including guided meditations, practices, and hidden tea recipes in the hard copy version.

The Fawn: Identity, Labels, Limiting Beliefs, Separation vs. Connection, “Other-ness”

1/27/2023

“I’m a Fawn!”

Alice wanders into the forest where things have no name. As she enters the shady coolness of the trees, she promptly forgets the name of everything around her, including herself. Disconcerted, she meets up with a sweet and gentle fawn, and in their quest to remember who they are, have a brief moment of tender touch and connection, however, as they leave the forest and come into the light of the meadow, the Fawn, suddenly remembering its identity, bounds off in fear of the human child it had been speaking sweetly with just a moment earlier.

Are you stuck in a narrative where labels and limiting beliefs based on those beliefs are creating a sense of separation? Take a moment to sit with how this is keeping you from connection or someone else as an outsider.

Painting the White Rosebush Red: Façade, Appearances, Deceit, Defensiveness, Fear

1/25/2023

Alice comes upon three playing cards who are furiously painting white roses red. Alice inquires into the madness: “Would you tell me, please,” said Alice, a little timidly, “why you are painting those roses? The playing cards explain that the Queen ordered red ones, but they put in white by mistake.

Of course, they're terrified of the Queen of Hearts ordering their heads off, so they're acting in ridiculous ways to just cover their asses (and save their heads).

Fear does often lead to unproductive and even downright ludicrous behavior, so acting from fear is something to avoid. Ruling with terror then also means that you're not likely to cultivate a very capable kingdom.

Creatures on the Train: Unsolicited Advice, Rescuer Syndrome, Inner Knowing, Distractions, Drama, Co-Dependency

1/23/2023

“Never mind what they all say, my dear . . .”

As Alice moves along towards the third square in the chess board of Looking Glass, she suddenly finds herself inside a train carriage that is stuffed full of all sorts of talking animals and other creatures. They all speak a load of nonsense, and none of them have anything useful to say. During the chaos, Alice thinks to herself, “Then there’s no use in speaking.” But even this doesn’t keep the silly banter from rolling along unhindered.

They all seem caught up in wanting to fix Alice’s dilemma of not having a ticket, though Alice herself seems perfectly at ease with her situation, and the train conductor has long gone. The crowd continues with their suggestions: “ . . . ought to know which way she’s going, even if she doesn’t know her own name!” “She ought to know her way to the ticket office, even if she doesn’t know her alphabet!”  “She’ll have to go back from here as luggage!” And so the unsolicited suggestions go, without any insight or consideration of whether Alice needs any help at all.  It is all rather maddening and such a waste of time.
Picture
Are you receiving "help" that's no helpful? Or are you the one getting up in other people's business?

It's important to remember each of us has our own sovereignty and ability to choose for ourselves. Even with the best intentions, thinking you know what's best for someone other than yourself is arrogant and what lies at the heart of so much misery in the world.

Step back and ask yourself if the advice you're giving might actually be for yourself, and if you're the one being barraged by unsolicited advice, it's time to get off that train!

Tall Poppy: Competition, Jealousy, Attack, Accomplishment, Achievement, Excellence, Being the “Bigger” Person

1/20/2023

“The tall poppy is the one that gets cut!”
There is a phenomenon that happens down in Wonderland as well as above ground and that is the unhealthy and often unconscious instinct to try to bring someone down who is excelling and achieving above the crowd.

Similar to the Flamingo, the Tall Poppy has faced many social challenges, sometimes even within the closed ranks of dear friends and family. While the Flamingo is ridiculed for their flamboyant nature, the Tall Poppy is attacked because of some sort of special gift, talent, or drive that takes them out in front of the pack.

The Tall Poppy has taken root in your reading to encourage you to see the mindless and unhealthy truth behind the harsh words or actions coming your way (and to possibly ask you to consider if you are one of the crowd bringing some outstanding person down).

It is the innovators, the bold and courageous achievers who reach new heights that remind us that there is much more possible as individuals and as the collective of humans on planet Earth.

Be wary of feelings of jealousy and allow them to signal that you are in the presence of something or someone magnificent and worthy of praise.
Picture
Practice: Approach whomever it is you are feeling jealousy about and acknowledge them for the thing that is triggering you. Offer some kindness, and be curious about getting to know this person and see what happens to those voices of comparison and inadequacy.

There is so much more, grasshopper! There is more to discover about the Tall Poppy AND miles to go down the many different rabbit trails of Wonderland! Stay tuned for more, and if you'd like to be invited to online and in person gatherings, make sure to join our mailing list! You'll also be first to know about how to get your very own hard copy of the Go Ask Alice Oracle & Tea Party Game!

The Dream: Imagination, Creativity, Vision, Inspiration

1/19/2023

“Life, what is it but a dream?”

The whole of Alice’s adventures in Wonderland and through the looking glass (including the dreaming Red King) exists inside the dreams of Alice, which came from the dream-world of Lewis Carroll. This oracle and all of the artwork for it, as well, are the result of a dream intended for the collective consciousness.

Dreams live inside the creative realms of the imagination, and it is from here that we receive the inspirations for all that we manifest. And whether we are actively participating or fully aware of it, what we dream of (at night and during our waking wanderings) influences what we create in our lives.

Picture
The Dream has materialized in your query to inspire you to take some time getting clear on what it is, exactly, you want to manifest for yourself.

The Lion: Intimidation vs. Vulnerability, Domination, Power, Fear vs. Respect

1/17/2023

The old poem goes . . .
         “The Lion and the Unicorn were fighting for the crown;
The Lion beat the Unicorn all round the town . . .”

The Lion, in many myths, symbolizes courage. The word courage comes from the word “coeur” which has French, and even earlier, Latin origins. It means “heart,” and it’s interesting how such an emotionally vulnerable organ can also be the center and catalyst for profound acts of heroism. Maybe it isn’t so paradoxical that the tender heart is the place where one can generate great strengths.

Picture
Where does this reading show up for you? Are you a dominating lion? A cowering king? Looking at the intersection or vulnerability and courage will help you to either up-level your own leadership or help you to see into what's going on around you.
